A thoughtful delivery, step by step

Send sympathy flowers to the funeral home or family home?

By GoFloristGo · Flower delivery planning · Updated

Send flowers to the confirmed venue when the gift is intended for a visitation or service and the family welcomes flowers. For personal support at another time, ask whether a home delivery would be welcome. The funeral home, ceremony venue and family home are separate destinations.

Flowers for the visitation or service

Start with the current notice and verify where the event will take place. A funeral home may arrange a service held at a church, another venue or a different branch. A cremation provider’s office is not automatically the gathering place.

Ask the venue who will receive and place the flowers. A service tribute needs an arrangement suited to the display area and a delivery window that leaves time for setup. Sending it to the arranging business instead of the actual venue can miss the event.

A sympathy gift for the family’s home

A home arrangement is a personal gesture with a different destination and schedule. Check that the recipient would welcome it, confirm the address privately, and choose a day when receiving it will be manageable. Do not take a family address from an old notice and assume it is appropriate to use.

Consider a manageable vase or container arrangement rather than a large display intended for a ceremony. Ask whether the recipient has space and whether they will be away for services or travel. Flowers need not arrive on the funeral date to communicate care.

A later memorial may need a new plan

A memorial can be held apart from the funeral and at another time or place. Verify the details of the event you want to acknowledge, including who can receive a delivery at that venue. Do not reuse an earlier funeral-home address and deadline without checking.

If there is no confirmed event or receiving contact, a card or a later agreed home gift may be more appropriate. Ask the family’s representative for direction without making them manage an unexpected large delivery.

Choose the right GoFloristGo starting point

Use the funeral-home directory when you have confirmed that branch is the destination. For a family-home gift, use the main GoFloristGo shopping experience and select the actual home address. A funeral-home preparation should not be reused for a residential delivery.

Respect any donation-only or no-flowers request in either setting. A delivery to a different address should not be used to get around a preference the family has expressed.

Common questions

Should I send flowers to the business named on the obituary?

Check the event address first. The business arranging a funeral may differ from the venue hosting the visitation, ceremony or memorial.

Is it too late to send sympathy flowers after the funeral?

A later gesture can still be thoughtful. Ask whether a home delivery would be welcome and arrange its address and date separately.

Can a service arrangement automatically be forwarded to the family?

No. Ask who will take care of the flowers after the event and whether transportation is arranged. Do not assume a second delivery is included.
