Where these go is the other half of the page, because just-because is a residential occasion and Fort Wayne is a residential city spread over four quadrants. Downtown and the West Central historic district sit in 46802, where the older houses have deep porches and the streets are narrow. The near north in 46805 covers North Anthony, Lakeside and the blocks around the rose garden on Lake Avenue. South of downtown, 46807 holds Southwood Park and the Foster Park streets; 46809 is Waynedale, which functions like its own small town inside the city. The southwest runs out through Aboite and Time Corners in 46804 and the outer Covington Road subdivisions in 46814. The east side is 46815 around Georgetown, with 46835 covering the Maplecrest and St. Joe Center corridor, and the north runs from 46825 up through Dupont and Carroll Road into 46845. The two shops are placed on the east and north, so those quadrants are the fast ones; a southwest address is a real drive and does better on a morning order.
Who actually receives these in a city like this one is worth saying out loud, because the reasons are more ordinary and better than anything a florist would put in an advertisement. The neighbor who ran a snowblower down your sidewalk without being asked. A teacher at a Fort Wayne Community Schools building, or in the Northwest Allen, Southwest Allen or East Allen districts, in the third week of a long semester. The person who fed the cat. A family two weeks after a funeral, when the casseroles have stopped and the house has gone quiet. Somebody who just moved into the neighborhood. And, specifically here: somebody in the middle of February or March, which in northeast Indiana is a long grey stretch with the holidays gone and spring still theoretical. A bouquet on a kitchen table during that stretch does more work than the same bouquet does in June, and it is the single best argument for ordering flowers with no occasion attached at all.
Two logistics and one caution. Winter: a bouquet standing unattended on a Fort Wayne porch in January is finished inside an hour — a cold snap here is ordinary, not exceptional — so put a mobile number on the order and let the driver hand it over or hold it. Apartments: the complexes off Coldwater, Dupont and Washington Center on the north side route deliveries through a leasing office that closes before the end of the workday, so a Friday afternoon delivery can sit behind locked glass until Monday morning. And the widened 60-mile radius on this rail reaches the relatives who live out from the city: New Haven, Huntertown, Leo-Cedarville, Grabill, Ossian, Roanoke, Monroeville, Woodburn and Churubusco behave like city addresses, while Columbia City, Auburn, Garrett, Kendallville, Huntington, Bluffton, Decatur, Berne, Wabash, Angola and LaGrange want a morning order. On rural routes, especially through the Amish farmland of LaGrange and Adams counties, mailbox numbers and GPS disagree often enough that a phone number on the order is worth more than any written instruction.
