Flowers for Evansville, IN

Order a birthday arrangement to a house off Green River Road on a Tuesday and here is what actually happens: a shop on the North Side puts it together that morning and a driver has it on the porch before the school buses run. Evansville is Indiana's southwestern anchor, wrapped around a long northward bend in the Ohio River, and the delivery map follows the way the city grew — the restored downtown and Haynie's Corner near the water, the dense old neighborhoods east toward Washington Avenue, the retail sprawl along Green River Road, and the University of Southern Indiana campus out west past the bypass. Get-well orders cluster at Deaconess Midtown on Mary Street and Ascension St. Vincent on the North Side; sympathy work goes to the funeral homes on Kentucky and Diamond Avenues. And every clock here reads Central, so the same-day math is an hour off from the rest of the state.
