Where romantic deliveries actually land in Toledo splits about evenly between homes and hospitality. On the residential side, the Warehouse District and downtown (43604) has turned a run of old commercial blocks on Superior, Huron and Washington into lofts and apartments — buildings with a locked street door, a call box and no doorman, which is the single most common reason a Toledo flower delivery fails. The Old West End (43620) is the opposite problem in the best way: enormous late-Victorian houses with deep covered porches where a box can sit safely out of the snow. Old Orchard and the university blocks (43606), Westgate and Reynolds Corners (43615), South Toledo, Glendale and Heatherdowns (43609, 43614), East Toledo and Birmingham (43605), North Toledo (43608, 43612) and Point Place on Maumee Bay (43611) each have their own quirks, and Point Place in February is a genuinely different drive from anywhere else in the city. Outside the line: Ottawa Hills, Sylvania and 43560, Maumee, Perrysburg, Holland, Oregon, Northwood, Rossford, Waterville and Whitehouse, plus Temperance and Lambertville in Michigan. If your recipient lives in an apartment, put the unit number, the building name and a working phone number on the order. A driver with a call box and no code has nothing to work with.
The hospitality half is concentrated and easy to plan around. Overnight romance in this market means Belamere Suites in Perrysburg — the suite hotel people drive in from three states for — the Renaissance Toledo Downtown Hotel on North Summit Street, the convention hotel on the riverfront by the Glass City Center, the Hilton Garden Inn at Levis Commons in Perrysburg, the Arrowhead Park hotels in Maumee, and the lodge at Maumee Bay State Park in Oregon, where the romance is the lake and the quiet rather than the city. Dinner means Registry Bistro in the old Secor building downtown, Mancy's Steakhouse on Phillips Avenue, Rosie's Italian Grille on Central, Element 112 on Main Street in Sylvania, Mancy's Bluewater Grille in Maumee, Real Seafood and Zia's on the east bank, Maumee Bay Brewing inside the 1859 Oliver House, or Poco Piatti at Levis Commons — and for all of them, the smart move is to send the flowers to the home or hotel rather than the restaurant, because a dining room has nowhere to put an arrangement and nobody wants to carry one through a February parking lot. A show at the Valentine Theatre — a downtown theatre that happens to be named for the occasion — a Toledo Symphony night at the Peristyle inside the Museum of Art, a Walleye game at the Huntington Center, or an evening at Hollywood Casino on Miami Street fills out the rest of the calendar.
