Does a just-because delivery need to be same-day?
+
Same-day options depend on the delivery ZIP, requested date, florist availability and that florist's local cutoff. Check the available options before paying; a city listing does not guarantee delivery today.
What do I write on the card if there is no occasion?
+
Something short and specific, which beats something warm and general every time. "You have had a rotten two weeks" does more than "thinking of you". "Thank you for the freezer" does more than "with gratitude". Name the thing: the school run you did not have to do, the dog you did not have to walk, the fact that somebody sat with you in a waiting room on Clifton Road. Eleven words is plenty. Sign it with your first name so nobody spends an afternoon guessing, and if the message is doing emotional work you cannot fit on a card, send the flowers anyway and telephone them in the evening. The bouquet's job is to open the door, not to say everything.
Can flowers be left on a porch if nobody is home?
+
Yes, and Decatur's housing stock is unusually good for it. The bungalows through Oakhurst, Winnona Park, the MAK district, Chelsea Heights and Clairemont mostly have deep front porches under mature trees, which is real shade on a July afternoon rather than the notional kind. Tell us where: a porch corner, behind a screen door, a side door off the driveway. We will have the driver photograph the handoff so you know it landed. The two situations to avoid are a bare west-facing step with no cover at all, and a gated apartment complex in 30032 or 30034 with no entry code supplied - a driver who cannot get through a gate has to bring the flowers back to the shop.
Can I send flowers to a teacher or a school office?
+
Yes, and the front office is the destination rather than the classroom. City Schools of Decatur buildings, Decatur High School at 310 N McDonough Street and the elementary and middle schools across 30030 all sign visitors and deliveries in at reception, and a bouquet is held there until the teacher's planning period or the end of the day. Send it mid-morning: lunch is chaos and the afternoon pickup crush on Commerce Drive and Clairemont Avenue makes a three o'clock attempt a poor bet. A vase arrangement handles a few hours on an office counter better than a wrapped bunch with no water. Put the teacher's full name and, if you know it, the grade or the room.
Can I thank a nurse or a ward?
+
You can, and it is one of the better uses of this occasion - but send it to the station rather than to a person, because a named individual may be off shift for four days. Emory Decatur Hospital at 2701 N Decatur Road is the closest of these, with the Atlanta VA Medical Center at 1670 Clairmont Road and the Clifton Road hospitals not far behind. Address it to the unit, say what it is for on the card, and choose something low and unscented that will sit on a counter without being in anybody's way. Telephone the unit first: some floors cannot keep flowers at all, in which case a plant for the break room is usually accepted where a bouquet is not.
Somebody just moved in nearby. Is flowers the right welcome?
+
It is a good one, and it is a gesture this corner of DeKalb does a lot of. Between Avondale Estates in 30002, Clarkston in 30021 - where decades of refugee resettlement have made a very small area one of the most internationally mixed in the United States - and the constant turnover of the rental blocks off Candler Road and Memorial Drive, somebody near you is unpacking this week. Keep it modest and keep it unfussy: a plant or a compact vase arrangement, a card with your first name and your house number on it, and nothing that obliges them to reply. If you do not know the unit number, do not guess it; a guessed number in a Decatur apartment block is somebody else's doorstep.
