Hotels are the other half of Boise anniversary volume, and downtown is small enough to know by name. The Grove Hotel on South Capitol shares a block with Idaho Central Arena, so an anniversary night there often sits on top of a Steelheads game or a concert. The Inn at 500 Capitol is the boutique option a few blocks south, Hotel 43 sits at Grove and Tenth with Chandlers on the ground floor, and the Modern Hotel anchors the Linen District over on Grove near Thirteenth. Hyatt Place on Bannock, the downtown Residence Inn and the Hampton Inn cover the business-hotel tier, and The Riverside Hotel out on Chinden in Garden City is the classic valley choice when a couple wants the river rather than the city. Every one of them works the same way: the arrangement goes to the front desk with the guest's name and, where possible, the reservation date, and the desk either holds it for check-in or arranges placement in the room with the guest's consent. Hotels will not send housekeeping into an occupied room with flowers on a stranger's say-so, so if you want the bouquet waiting on the bed, call the desk yourself after ordering and authorize it. Timing follows check-in: most downtown properties start at four, so a drop between three and five is the sweet spot. Restaurants are the opposite story, and worth being blunt about — most Boise dining rooms do not have anywhere to keep a bouquet during service and would rather you not send one. If you want flowers at the table, call the restaurant first and ask; if they say no, send to the home or the hotel and let the evening carry itself.
The anniversaries that are not milestones are the ones this market handles best, and a little planning costs nothing. If you send every year, say so — ask for the same palette or the same structure as last time and the shop will note it, because with three florists in the valley the designers see repeat names. Long-distance is common here too: one half of a couple traveling for work, an adult child ordering for their parents from another state, a spouse stationed away. In every one of those cases the reliable address is where somebody is standing — a reception desk, a hotel front desk, a neighbor who is home — rather than an empty house at four in the afternoon. Seasonally, what the cooler holds shifts more than it would in a coastal market: garden-style builds through spring, sturdier stems that keep their shape through a 100-degree July and the August smoke weeks, and deeper, warmer palettes from October into the grey of the January inversion. Asking what came in strongest that week, instead of pinning yourself to a catalog photograph, generally gets more flower for the same money in a market this size. And if the date has already slipped past — the anniversary was Tuesday and you are reading this on Thursday — send anyway and schedule a morning window. A Thursday delivery booked Wednesday night is an easy, reliable run in a valley this compact, and being two days late with something good beats being on time with nothing.
