Audubon Park has no hospital, no urgent care and no pharmacy inside its two tenths of a square mile — but it has something better for a get-well order, which is a single road that runs to almost everything. Haddon Avenue starts in Haddon Township a mile and a half north of the borough and runs unbroken into Camden, and along it sit Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital at 1600 Haddon Avenue and then, a few blocks on, the Cooper University Hospital campus at One Cooper Plaza — South Jersey's Level I trauma centre, with MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper and Children's Regional Hospital at Cooper on the same Camden blocks. All of that is inside four miles of the 08106 centroid, ten to fifteen minutes outside rush hour. East and south the radius picks up the rest: Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital on Chapel Avenue, Jefferson Stratford Hospital on Laurel Road, Virtua Voorhees Hospital at 100 Bowman Drive with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia specialty and surgery campus in the same township, Virtua Marlton on Brick Road, and Inspira Medical Center Woodbury on North Broad Street. And across the Delaware, over the Ben Franklin or the Walt Whitman, are the Philadelphia academic centres — the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, CHOP on Civic Center Boulevard, the Jefferson hospitals in Center City, Temple, and Lankenau out East Lancaster Avenue in Wynnewood. Any bed on that list is within one afternoon's reach of this ZIP.
Floor rules are where get-well orders fail, and the three buildings that matter most here each have a different failure. At MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper and any infusion or transplant area, the trap people fall into is the potted plant: it is the better long-run gift and it is the one thing those units most often turn away, because live soil is a spore source in a room full of people with no immune system to spare. Lilies come straight back out too — the pollen marks the linen and a shared room has no way to escape the scent. Send cut stems in a sealed vessel there, or send to the house and let the plant be waiting at discharge. At Cooper's intensive-care units and at Children's Regional Hospital at Cooper, which pulls the hardest paediatric referrals in South Jersey, the answer is usually that the room takes nothing and the family takes everything: the parents in that waiting room have often driven in from Gloucester, Salem or Atlantic County and are living out of a chair. Address it to a parent by name with a mobile number and we will do a lobby hand-off, or send it to their house so something is there when they finally go home to sleep. On the long stays — a rehabilitation admission, a stroke recovery, weeks rather than days — the arrangement will be moved by staff a dozen times, so it has to be short, unbreakable and free of decorative wire. Skip the latex balloon everywhere; enough buildings in this radius ban it that it is not worth the risk of the whole delivery being refused at a desk.
The build that clears every desk in this radius is a short one. Spray roses, stock, lisianthus, carnations and alstroemeria are the dependable stems; gerbera if you want colour that reads from a doorway; solidago rather than anything that sheds onto a bedside table. Keep the whole thing under a foot in ceramic or plastic, because what gets an arrangement relocated — or relocated out — is annexing the half of a rolling tray that a meal tray needs. Ask for it lily-free, pollen-light and unscented, and name the unit rather than just the hospital: a stated unit gets a build made for it instead of a guess. Then give us three things, not two — hospital, unit, room, plus the patient's name as the hospital has it. Front desks in this region do not play guessing games, and a patient who has kept their name out of the facility directory cannot even be confirmed as admitted, which is how a wrapped arrangement ends up on a lobby counter for two days with nobody authorised to move it. Cooper's Camden campus spreads across several buildings around One Cooper Plaza, and the unit is what tells a driver which lobby to walk into. Two out of three is not enough here; get a mobile number and send it to the court instead.
