How far ahead should I order for Valentine's Day?
+
Two or three days, and earlier if you want a specific design. February 14th is the one day the same-day model here genuinely breaks: every studio in the ring is booked out, delivery windows stretch, and the wholesale rose supply moving through the flower market district downtown is at its tightest and most expensive of the year. Order by the 11th or 12th, pick the delivery date at checkout, and give a delivery address where somebody will be present. The same advice applies to Mother's Day in May, to the Nowruz weeks in late March when Westwood's Persian Square buys hyacinths by the armful, and to graduation season at UCLA in June.
What does a romantic bouquet cost in West LA, and what is on the shelf?
+
The listed arrangements in this selection start at $32.49. Delivery charges, taxes and optional extras are confirmed for the selected florist and recipient before payment.
Should I send flowers to their office or their home?
+
Home, unless you are certain. West LA is full of workplaces where a delivery is a public event — the Century City towers, the Riot Games campus at 12333 West Olympic, the One Westside offices at Pico and Overland, Sony Pictures and the Culver Studios on Washington Boulevard, Google's Playa Vista campus, and the Santa Monica corridor on Colorado, Broadway and Ocean Park. In an established relationship that visibility is the point. In a new one it can land badly, and it is not a thing you can undo. If you do send to work, we need a full name plus floor, suite or department and a mobile number; studio lots require a drive-on pass, so those deliveries stop at security and travel the last stretch internally.
I am proposing. Where should the flowers go?
+
Not with you, in almost every case. The Westside's proposal spots are all walks: the Palisades Park bluff along Ocean Avenue, the Santa Monica Pier, the Venice canals, Burton Chace Park at the marina, Robert Irwin's Central Garden at the Getty Center above the 405, the Janss Steps and Royce Hall quad at UCLA. A vase does not survive a tram ride, a boardwalk or a hilltop breeze, and carrying one telegraphs the surprise. Send the flowers to the home you are going back to, timed for the afternoon, and ask for a handoff to a person if anyone is there. If the night ends at a hotel, send them to the front desk under the surname the room is booked in.
The building has a callbox, a doorman or a gate. What do you need?
+
It depends which of the three. For the apartment stock of Palms, Mar Vista, Sawtelle and the Sepulveda and Barrington corridors, a unit number plus a callbox code that rings a phone someone will answer — a street address alone leaves a driver standing at a locked gate. For the Wilshire Corridor high-rises and the Century City towers, the desk signs and the package room holds, so a unit number and resident name is enough; these are the easiest addresses in the city. For Brentwood, Bel-Air, Mandeville Canyon and Sullivan Canyon, a gate code plus a phone the driver can ring is the minimum, and assume there will be a call: canyon addresses defeat map pins as a matter of routine.
