Flowers for Prescott, WI

Prescott begins at a confluence you can stand and watch: the clear St. Croix pours into the muddier Mississippi right below town, and the line where the two rivers mix is visible from Freedom Park on the bluff. That meeting of waters has been the town's identity since the steamboat days — the Great River Road runs Broad Street down to the lift bridge over to Hastings, Minnesota, and Point Douglas fills in the Minnesota bank across the way. Because it is the first Wisconsin town on the river below the Twin Cities, Prescott lives a double life: a river town with its own downtown and marina, and the western tip of the metro exurb belt, close enough that a flower order might come from someone in St. Paul sending to a parent up on the bluff. Deliveries move between the compact grid near the water and the newer homes climbing the hills, with the county roads out toward Diamond Bluff filling in the rest.
