Flowers for Oshkosh, WI

There is a week every July when Oshkosh doubles in size — EAA AirVenture fills Wittman Regional Airport and the north-end campgrounds, and the whole town bends toward the flight line. The rest of the year the city keeps a steadier rhythm around water: the Fox River runs west to east straight into Lake Winnebago, splitting Oshkosh into a north side and a south side joined by the Main Street and Wisconsin Street bridges. The Oregon Street district anchors the south side; UW-Oshkosh, the Grand Opera House, and downtown hold the north; and the lakeshore neighborhoods stretch along Menominee Park and the water. For a florist, deliveries can land at Ascension Mercy on Hazel Street, the funeral homes, the campus, and the lake-facing homes — and the bridges are the only thing that slows an afternoon route.
