Flowers for Norman, OK

The country checks Norman's homework every time a tornado siren sounds — the National Weather Center on the south research campus houses the forecasters who call severe-weather outbreaks for all fifty states. Around that campus, the town keeps a college city's twin rhythms: quiet summers, seven football Saturdays that triple the population, and two graduation weekends that empty every flower cooler in Cleveland County. Deliveries move along three dependable lines. Main Street and Campus Corner take the birthday and date-night orders; Porter Avenue carries get-well pieces to Norman Regional's hospital campus at 901 North Porter; Lindsey Street funnels everything bound for the OU side — dorm desks, department offices, tailgate tables. East of 12th Avenue the addresses thin out toward Lake Thunderbird and Little Axe, where a delivery can mean a gravel county road and an extra twenty minutes.
