Flowers for Natchez, MS

Natchez has been sending flowers longer than most American towns have existed. It is the oldest continuous settlement on the lower Mississippi, laid out high on a bluff two hundred feet above the water, and the antebellum mansion district that survived the war is now the reason the tour buses come — Dunleith, Monmouth, Stanton Hall, Longwood and dozens more, many of them still hosting weddings and Pilgrimage tours every spring and fall. That gives the local flower trade a rhythm you will not find in a highway town: parlor arrangements for house tours, bridal work for bluff-side ceremonies, and a steady base of the everyday orders every town runs — birthdays, get-wells routed to Merit Health Natchez on Sergeant Prentiss Drive, sympathy pieces for the churches downtown. From the mansions the streets drop to Under-the-Hill at the waterline and run out past the Grand Village of the Natchez toward the Trace, and a delivery may cover all of that elevation in a single afternoon.
