The dates themselves rarely happen in Liverpool, and that is worth saying plainly rather than pretending the village is something it is not. Liverpool's own contribution to the romantic calendar is the shore: Onondaga Lake Park along the northeast bank, the path from the Salt Museum end past Willow Bay, and the full circuit now that the Loop the Lake trail has closed the western gap. The sun sets across the water from this side, the path fills on any warm evening, and within living memory none of it was walkable — this lake was one of the most polluted in the country before the long cleanup gave the town its waterfront back. Everything else is a short drive: Armory Square downtown for dinner and the bars around it, Marshall Street for the student version, the Landmark Theatre on South Salina, a 1928 movie palace that still runs shows, a Syracuse Crunch night at the arena downtown, the outdoor rink at Clinton Square in winter, the cinema at Destiny USA, and in summer Green Lakes State Park at Fayetteville or Beaver Lake at Baldwinsville for the daylight version.
Where the flowers actually go is usually an apartment, and Liverpool's rental stock has its own quirks. The complexes along Route 57, Old Liverpool Road and the 7th North Street corridor run on buzzers and entry codes, and a driver who cannot get past a lobby door will leave the arrangement at a management office where it sits until someone thinks to ask. Put the building, the unit and a working phone number on the order, and if there is a code, put the code. In the older village — the short lots around Tulip, Vine, First and Second — doors are close to the street and the problem is only whether anyone is home. Out in 13090 the postwar loops off Morgan and Wetzel are straightforward in daylight and confusing after dark, so a porch light or a description beats a house number. And if the relationship is new enough that a delivery to the home address would be an overstep, the workplace is the standard alternative around here: the Electronics Park gate, the Amazon building on Morgan Road, the North Syracuse offices, a floor on University Hill. Name the department, because those lobbies route by team.
