Leesburg is built on a neck of land between Lake Harris and Lake Griffin, part of the Harris Chain, and the shape of the place decides the shape of an evening. Nobody here plans a romantic night around a downtown block; they plan it around water and a sunset. Venetian Gardens, the city park on Lake Harris with its canals and islands, is where most of it starts or ends. Nine miles east, Tavares has made its whole identity out of the waterfront — seaplanes coming off Lake Dora, the park at the foot of the town — and from there the Dora Canal, a short cypress-shaded run between Lake Eustis and Lake Dora that people who have lived here forty years still take visitors through. Fourteen miles east, Mount Dora is the evening-out town, with its lakefront and its old streets. What that means for a flower order is simple and worth saying plainly: the delivery should land at the house in the afternoon, before anybody is getting into a car. Flowers are the beginning of the evening here, not a prop at the end of it.
Which is the long way round to the one piece of advice that saves the most bouquets in this market: do not send romantic flowers to a restaurant. A kitchen in the hour before service has no interest in your arrangement, a hostess stand is not a cooler, and the odds of the right table getting the right vase at the right moment are worse than anyone expects. Send to the house for the early afternoon and you get three things instead of one — the recipient sees it while they are getting ready, it sits in air conditioning rather than by a door that opens every ninety seconds, and it is still there tomorrow morning. The exception is a hotel, which is a different animal because a front desk keeps a log and a name. If the night involves a room somewhere on the chain of lakes, give us the guest name exactly as the reservation reads and the arrival date, and let the property decide whether their staff carries it upstairs.
Valentine's Day deserves its own paragraph in a market this size, because the arithmetic is unkind. Three shops, one date, and a delivery area sixty miles wide. Every florist in America is short-handed on February 14, but in a city with a dozen benches a late order simply costs more; in a city with three, a late order may not be possible at all. Order a week out if you can and at minimum two or three days out, and be flexible about the design rather than about the date — asking for a specific product on the fourteenth is how people end up with nothing. The second Valentine's rule here is about timing within the day: the morning slots go first and they go to houses, because a runner can do a residential street efficiently before the afternoon gets complicated. If you want your delivery early in the day, say so when you order, not on the morning of. And if the fourteenth falls midweek, ask yourself whether the thirteenth in the evening is actually better for the two of you. It usually is.

Nine miles east, seaplanes off Lake Dora and the cypress-shaded canal run between Lake Eustis and Lake Dora. The Alfred Street bench is the closest of the three to anything happening on that side of the chain
Fourteen miles east and the standard night out for couples in this county. The Highway 19A bench sits in town; festival weekends close streets there, so check the calendar before promising a tight delivery window
The ungated Leesburg addresses senders forget to describe properly — numbered streets off Main, the west side out toward Lake Harris, and the older neighborhoods. Short runs from the 2nd Street bench and the easiest same-day deliveries in the market
Plantation at Leesburg, Royal Highlands, Arlington Ridge, Pennbrooke Fairways, Legacy, Scottish Highlands, Hawthorne, Highland Lakes. Community name, villa or lot number, phone number — and a shaded entrance named, because a sunlit step in August ruins an arrangement in half an hour
Full name, employer, department or floor, phone number, morning slot. The exception is hospital shift work at UF Health Leesburg on East Dixie Avenue, where a twelve-hour shift makes a desk drop awkward and the house is the better target
