Flowers for La Porte, IN

La Porte earned its nickname, the Maple City, but it is the water that shapes a delivery day here — Pine, Stone, Clear, and Lily lakes press right up against the neighborhoods, so an address off Waverly Road or Truesdell Avenue can be a lakeside cottage one house and a century-old foursquare the next. The heart of it is the Harrison-era courthouse square downtown, with the retail along Lincolnway and Indiana Avenue and the county offices clustered close. Get-well orders head to IU Health La Porte Hospital on Lincolnway; the fairgrounds, Kesling Park, and the schools off Boyd Boulevard round out the everyday stops. Because this is the Central-time northwest corner, the cutoff clock runs an hour behind most of the state — a detail that trips up senders in Indianapolis.
