About Islandia sympathy

How Islandia sends sympathy flowers.

Almost every sympathy order placed from Islandia ends up travelling one of two ways. North and east, to a chapel in Lake Ronkonkoma, Hauppauge, Smithtown or Patchogue where the wake will be held. Or west, down Sunrise Highway toward Wellwood Avenue, the stretch running between Farmingdale and West Babylon that is the burial ground for this half of Long Island and holds more cemeteries in four miles than most counties hold at all: St. Charles Cemetery, the Diocese of Rockville Centre's main Catholic burial ground for Suffolk; Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum; Long Island National Cemetery; and New Montefiore, Wellwood and Beth Moses among the Jewish cemeteries on the same road. Knowing which of the two directions your flowers are going is the first decision, and it is not interchangeable — one of them takes a delivery on a schedule, and the other, for reasons below, mostly does not.

Then the part almost nobody is told. Suffolk County has one of the largest veteran populations in New York, and that means a real share of these services end at Long Island National Cemetery on Wellwood Avenue or at Calverton National Cemetery, thirty-five miles east, one of the busiest national cemeteries in the country. At both, the VA's practice is a committal service held in a shelter rather than at the open grave, with the interment completed afterward and the family not present for it. A van arriving at a scheduled shelter time with a vase has nowhere to put it and nobody to hand it to. The order that works is the funeral home, the day of the wake — the family sees it, the director moves what is appropriate, and the cemetery handles the grave on its own terms. Anything left at the graveside afterward is the cemetery's decision rather than ours: ring its office, ask which containers that section permits and in which weeks, and book around the answer you get. A florist guessing on your behalf is a wasted trip and an empty plot.

Delivery details to prepare

Delivery destinations in Islandia.

Moloney Family Funeral Homes, Lake Ronkonkoma and Hauppauge

The widest chapel footprint in central Suffolk — Ronkonkoma Avenue in Lake Ronkonkoma, plus Hauppauge, Holbrook, Bohemia, Center Moriches and Port Jefferson Station; four of those sit within fifteen minutes of the 11749 centroid

Wellwood Avenue burial corridor, Pinelawn and Farmingdale

St. Charles Cemetery, the Diocese of Rockville Centre's main Suffolk Catholic ground, with Pinelawn Memorial Park, Long Island National Cemetery and the New Montefiore, Wellwood and Beth Moses cemeteries on the same four-mile stretch — reached on Sunrise Highway and Route 109, since a flower van cannot use the parkways

Long Island National and Calverton National Cemeteries

Suffolk's veteran density puts these in a large share of local services; at both, the committal is held in a shelter and the interment completed afterward without the family present, so the flowers belong at the funeral home on the day of the wake, not at a shelter time

South shore and harbour chapels

Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons in East Islip near Islip Flowers at 341 Main St., Raynor & D'Andrea in West Sayville and Bayport on the ground Westsayville Florist works from 104 Montauk Hwy., and Nolan Funeral Home in Northport village minutes from The Flower Basketnorthport

Deliveries to the family's house

The order that matters most when the notice says donations in lieu of flowers — a plant for the counter the day after the burial, into 11749 or into Central Islip, Brentwood, Hauppauge and Lake Ronkonkoma, when the visitors have gone and nobody is cooking

FAQ

Islandia flower delivery FAQs.

Which funeral homes near Islandia do you deliver to?

The chapels within a short run of 11749 and the ones the surrounding towns use. Moloney Family Funeral Homes has the widest footprint in central Suffolk, with houses in Lake Ronkonkoma on Ronkonkoma Avenue, Hauppauge, Holbrook, Bohemia, Center Moriches and Port Jefferson Station. Branch Funeral Home covers Smithtown and Miller Place. Nolan Funeral Home is in Northport village. Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons is in East Islip, Raynor & D'Andrea in West Sayville and Bayport, and Robertaccio in Patchogue. Give us the house, the town and the surname as the director has it posted, and we route the order to the shop closest to that chapel rather than the one closest to you.

Can you deliver to Long Island National Cemetery or Calverton?

Not in the way most people picture, and we would rather explain than take the order. At both national cemeteries the VA holds the committal service in a shelter rather than at the open grave, and the interment is completed afterward without the family present — so there is no graveside for a van to arrive at and nobody waiting to receive a vase. Send the arrangement to the funeral home for the wake instead, where the family will actually see it. For anything placed at the graveside afterward, the cemetery office is the authority — ring it, ask which containers and which weeks that section permits, and order around what they tell you.
