The hospital bed a Hammond patient ends up in is usually not in Hammond, and get-well orders here go wrong when the sender assumes otherwise. Franciscan Health keeps a campus in the city at 5454 Hohman Avenue, but the inpatient weight of this corner of Lake County sits just outside the city limits: Franciscan Health Munster on Superior Avenue, Community Hospital on MacArthur Boulevard a few blocks away in the same town, St. Catherine Hospital on Fir Street in East Chicago, and Methodist Hospitals Northlake on Grant Street in Gary, with Methodist's Southlake campus out on Broadway in Merrillville for anyone who lives on the east side of the radius. Cross the state line and there are two more within a short drive: Ingalls Memorial in Harvey, which is about eight miles from the Hammond centroid and therefore nearer than either Methodist campus, and Roseland Community Hospital on West 111th Street in Chicago, which is under a mile from one of our own shops.
