For the weekend that the romance is the whole trip, the geography is simple and the bridges are the constraint. Everything with a beach view is east of the Intracoastal: the Opal Grand at 10 N Ocean Boulevard, the 1926 Colony Hotel and Cabana Club on East Atlantic, the Seagate, Crane's Beach House off Gleason Street, Wright by the Sea down on South Ocean. A driver reaches every one of them over one of two bascule spans, Atlantic Avenue or George Bush Boulevard, each of which lifts for passing boats on its own timetable — or loops south and comes back over Linton. The Ray Hotel at 233 NE 2nd Avenue is the inland exception in Pineapple Grove. Delray Sands sits just south in Highland Beach, and the resort ends of the ring are The Boca Raton and Waterstone on East Camino Real and Eau Palm Beach up in Manalapan. Every one of them takes delivery at a front desk under the reservation name; if you want the arrangement in the room before she opens the door, arrange that with the hotel, because no florist can authorize room entry and none will pretend otherwise. Ask for a midday drop and let the desk hold it.
Two romantic ideas that do not work as deliveries, and what to do instead. The first is the beach. Delray's shoreline faces east, which makes sunrise the good hour rather than sunset, and the municipal beach, Atlantic Dunes Park and Anchor Park along South Ocean Boulevard are genuinely the best free thing in the city — but none of them is an address. No shop can leave an arrangement on sand, and nothing left on a bench survives ten minutes. The same is true of the gardens at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens on Morikami Park Road out west, and the boardwalk at Wakodahatchee Wetlands on Jog Road, both of which are lovely places to propose and impossible places to receive a delivery. The workable version is to have the flowers delivered that morning to wherever you are staying, or to a friend who is in on it, and carry them from there. The second is the restaurant. Downtown dining rooms are small, whether it is Elisabetta's at the west end of the strip, Lionfish further east, Dada in the old house on North Swinton or Deck 84 out over the water — and a vase on a two-top is an obstacle for three hours and then a burden in a valet line on the way home.
