Bowling Green has two hospitals and they are not interchangeable to a driver. The Medical Center at 800 Park Street is the Med Center Health flagship and the regional referral hospital for this corner of Kentucky, sitting just off the bypass on the downtown and WKU side of the city — an older, built-up campus where a delivery means finding the right entrance and then the right unit, and where the patient in the bed may well live in Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Simpson, Allen or Logan County rather than in Bowling Green at all. TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital at 1801 Ashley Circle is the other, tucked behind the Scottsville Road retail strip and reached most easily off Campbell Lane; it is the shorter, simpler run of the two because the parking sits at the door. Both take flowers daily. What they need from you is the patient's full legal name as admitting has it and the unit or room, and the studio will verify with the desk before the van leaves rather than let a bouquet bounce at a nurses' station.
Then there is the question of what the floor will actually accept, and it pays to ask for the right build rather than hope. At Park Street the two places where a pollen-shedding stem gets set aside are the cancer unit and intensive care — if your person is on either, ask for the lily-free version and the studio swaps in spray roses, alstroemeria, lisianthus and other stems that do not drop pollen onto a tray table. Keep scent light for the same rooms, because a strong fragrance in a closed room with a nauseated patient is a burden rather than a gift. Size matters more than people expect. Whatever space a patient has beside the bed is already taken up by a jug, a phone, a chart and somebody's reading glasses, so a compact vase design earns a place on it while a tall arrangement gets moved to the floor under the window and forgotten. If you are adding a balloon, ask for mylar rather than latex — several units restrict latex outright — and if the admission is to a behavioural-health unit anywhere in this region, telephone before ordering, because glass, ribbon and wire generally do not go in at all.
The referral radius is the part of Bowling Green get-well ordering that trips up out-of-state senders. Because Park Street draws from eight counties, the person you are sending to may be discharged tomorrow and back home in Glasgow, Scottsville or Munfordville by the time an afternoon run reaches the room — for a short admission, sending to the home address is frequently the better call. The widened 60-mile radius also puts the smaller hospitals on the route directly: Med Center Health runs The Medical Center at Scottsville in Allen County, The Medical Center at Franklin in Simpson County down toward the Tennessee line, and The Medical Center at Caverna at Horse Cave up the interstate, while T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow and Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville handle their own counties. One caveat in the other direction: the sickest cases from Warren County are transferred to Nashville or Louisville, and neither is inside this ring — if your person has been moved down I-65 to a Nashville hospital, order on the Nashville page instead so a local studio there handles it.
A great deal of recovery in this city happens at home rather than in a bed with a chart on it, and Bowling Green's version of that has a particular shape. This is a manufacturing town — the Corvette plant on Corvette Drive, Bowling Green Metalforming and the Kentucky Transpark tenants, Kobe Aluminum, Holley on Russellville Road — so a fair share of get-well orders go to a house where somebody is six weeks into a recovery, off the line, home in the middle of a Tuesday and genuinely bored. Farm injuries out in the county work the same way, as do the WKU students who go home to a dorm room rather than to a house; for those, the arrangement is handed to the residence-hall front desk and the student gets a text, so put a mobile number on the order. When a recovery is going to run weeks instead of days, a living plant keeps earning its place long after cut stems have gone over, and in July a west-facing Kentucky porch at ninety-plus degrees with full humidity will undo an open bloom in an afternoon, so let the driver call rather than leave it out.
