For the anniversaries that get an actual evening out, Bothell's answer is six miles east. The Woodinville wine district begins where NE 145th Street crosses the valley: Chateau Ste. Michelle on NE 145th with its lawn and tasting rooms, Columbia Winery across the road, DeLille Cellars in the old Redhook brewery building, Novelty Hill-Januik, and the dense warehouse-district tasting rooms behind them. Willows Lodge on NE 145th and the Barking Frog attached to it, along with The Herbfarm, are where the milestone dinners get booked. Bearcreek Florist (17186 Redmond Way, Redmond 98052, 7.2 miles, no rating on file yet) works that corridor, and Thebothell Florist reaches it over the Sammamish valley. One caution that saves a lot of disappointment: a bouquet delivered to a restaurant table mid-service is awkward for everyone, and most kitchens have nowhere to store one. Give the flowers to the host stand an hour before the reservation so staff can set them at the table, or skip the restaurant entirely and send the arrangement home — walking back into a house where flowers are already on the table is the stronger version of the same gesture.
Most anniversaries here, though, are ordinary Tuesdays, and the delivery is a house. Bothell's residential stock runs from the hillside streets of Westhill and Norway Hill in 98011 with their long set-back driveways, through the cul-de-sac loops of Queensborough and Shelton View, north into 98012 toward the Mill Creek line, and up to the dense townhouse and apartment blocks of Canyon Park in 98021, where the delivery point is often a leasing office or package room rather than a unit door. Routes also reach Kenmore 98028, Woodinville 98072, Mill Creek, Lynnwood 98036 and the Maltby edge. Two Bothell-specific problems come up constantly. First, the surprise problem: this is a biotech and software corridor where a lot of people work from home, so the partner you are surprising may be twenty feet from the front door all day. Ask for a specific window and a phone call to you rather than to them, or send the arrangement to a neighbour, or route it to a desk at Canyon Park instead. Second, the weather problem: for most of the year an uncovered Bothell porch is a wet porch, so a leave-at-door delivery needs a sheltered spot, and a bouquet standing in November rain for three hours is not the anniversary you paid for.
