Flowers for Biloxi, MS

A wedding on the beach is a good way to understand how flowers move in Biloxi. The ceremony might be on the sand off Beach Boulevard, the reception in a casino ballroom, the out-of-town guests scattered across five hotels, and the whole thing has to be staged before the Gulf breeze picks up in the afternoon. That is the coast in miniature — everything strung along US-90, everything on the water's schedule. Between the destination weddings and the casino-room surprises, Biloxi runs the same steady base every town does: birthday arrangements for houses up in D'Iberville, get-well flowers to the Keesler Medical Center and the coast hospitals, sympathy pieces for the churches in Point Cadet and the old seafood neighborhoods where the shrimp boats still work. The city was built by fishing families and remade by the casinos, and the flower orders carry both histories at once.
