The office half of the Arlington map is unusually concentrated, which is good news for a birthday you want to land on a desk before five. East Lamar Boulevard and the entertainment-district frontage carry two genuine corporate headquarters within a short drive of each other: D.R. Horton on Horton Circle in 76011, the homebuilder's national head office, and Texas Health Resources at 612 East Lamar Boulevard, the administrative center for one of North Texas's largest hospital systems. The Texas Rangers front office works out of Globe Life Field on Stadium Drive. City of Arlington offices sit at City Hall on West Abram Street downtown, and Arlington ISD administration is on East Lamar. Then there is the industrial half, which follows different rules entirely: General Motors Arlington Assembly on East Abram Street builds full-size SUVs on a shift schedule, so the recipient may be on a line rather than at a desk, and the plant gate is not a place a driver can improvise. The same caution applies across the Great Southwest Industrial District and the warehouse and office parks strung along State Highway 360 toward the airport, where a building may have three docks and one receptionist. For any of these, the honest instruction is the same: send to the lobby or front desk with a department name and a mobile number, or send it to the house and let the celebration happen there.
The residential half runs south and west from downtown, and it is where most Arlington birthday flowers actually go. Downtown Arlington and the UT Arlington corridor (76013) hold the oldest short-block streets — Center, Mesquite, Abram, West Street — plus Theatre Arlington, the Arlington Music Hall on North Center Street and the Levitt Pavilion lawn. North Arlington (76012, 76006) includes Interlochen, the canal neighborhood famous across the metroplex for its Christmas lights, along with Woodland West, Lincoln Square, the River Legacy Parks side of the Trinity River, and the newer Viridian master-planned addresses where a call-box code in the note is the difference between delivered and attempted. Central Arlington (76010, 76011) covers the apartment density along Division, Collins and Pioneer Parkway. South of Interstate 20 the grid opens up: Green Oaks and the Parks Mall area (76015, 76016, 76017), Arlington Highlands off Matlock, the Sublett and Bardin subdivisions (76001, 76002, 76018), and the Mansfield and Kennedale edges. Pantego and Dalworthington Gardens are separate little towns entirely surrounded by Arlington, on the same routes. Weather is the constraint nobody plans for: from May into September a vase left on a west-facing porch at three o'clock is cooked inside an hour, and a spring hailstorm or a gust front will flatten a tall arrangement. Name a shaded door, a covered carport or a garage bay.
