Where the flowers go says as much as what is in them, and this city has three quite different romantic addresses. The apartment layer is the biggest: courtyard buildings and newer towers along Ventura Boulevard, Topanga Canyon Boulevard, De Soto Avenue, Victory Boulevard and around Warner Center, where the driver needs a unit number and a callbox or gate code because there is no manager on site in the evening. A leasing office will sometimes take a delivery, which is convenient and also means a small audience. The hillside layer runs south of the boulevard — Dumetz Road, Wells Drive, Avenue San Luis and the lanes climbing toward Mulholland Drive — long private drives, unlit house numbers, gates at the bottom; a mobile number on the order is what saves that delivery. And the workplace layer is Warner Center: the towers on Oxnard Street and Erwin, Farmers Insurance on Owensmouth, the newsroom nearby. Think twice before sending flowers to a desk early in a relationship — a delivery there passes through a security desk and a floor receptionist, and the whole floor sees it arrive. Established couple, fine. Third date, send to the house.
Date-night deliveries are their own logistics problem here because the good restaurants are in three directions and only one of them is flat. The Ventura Boulevard strip through Woodland Hills and Tarzana is the easy version, minutes from either in-city bench, as is the cluster at The Village at Westfield Topanga. Then the roads climb: Topanga Canyon Boulevard over the Santa Monica Mountains toward Malibu and the Inn of the Seventh Ray on Old Topanga Canyon Road, or up into the Calabasas hills to Saddle Peak Lodge. Those are two-lane mountain drives, not shortcuts, and a canyon delivery is a day-ahead order rather than a same-day click. Whichever direction you choose, call the restaurant yourself before you order flowers — most will hold an arrangement and place it, some will not, and one that arrives in the middle of dinner service gets parked in a back hallway rather than put on your table. Tell us the time the restaurant agreed to and the shop will build the route around it. For an overnight instead, the Warner Center Marriott on Oxnard Street and the Hilton on Canoga Avenue are the in-town options, with the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village and the Hyatt Regency Westlake out west; put the flowers in the name on the reservation and send them after check-in.
