Flowers for White Bear Lake, MN

White Bear Lake grew up as a resort town — city families rode the streetcar out to the lake in the summers, and that shoreline is still the point of the place. The lake sits in the middle of everything, so the city curls around it: a preserved downtown of brick storefronts on Fourth Street and Washington Avenue, the marina and public beach on Lake Avenue, older lake homes along the water, and newer neighborhoods pushing out toward Highway 61, Bald Eagle Lake, and the Dellwood and Mahtomedi shores across the way. That ring shape is the whole delivery story here. A shop near the marina and a recipient on the Dellwood side are on opposite banks of the same water, so a local designer's real advantage is knowing the roads around the lake and which lakeside driveways hide off the county roads.
