Flowers for Wheatland, CA

Wheatland is a small rice-and-ranch town of about 3,500 in southern Yuba County, sitting on Highway 65 about halfway between Marysville to the north and Lincoln to the south, beside the Bear River and just outside the gate to Beale Air Force Base. Deliveries here are short and personal: Main Street and the compact historic downtown anchor the center, the residential grid runs off D Street and Third Street, and the newer subdivisions and rural ranch roads spread out into the rice fields and toward Camp Far West. The town's institutions are neighborhood-scale — Wheatland High School and the district elementary campuses, the churches and community hall, the local funeral homes and senior residences — with Beale Air Force Base as the big presence just up the road. It's exactly the kind of place where a bouquet should come from someone who knows whether the recipient is on Main Street, out toward the base gate, or on a ranch road past the river, not a warehouse boxing flowers three states away.
