Most cities route anniversary flowers through a hotel district. Santa Clarita does not have one, and knowing that changes how you plan. The valley's rooms sit in two clusters: the Hyatt Regency Valencia on Town Center Drive, which is the largest hotel here and the place local banquets and milestone parties actually happen, sharing a block with Westfield Valencia Town Center; and the run of properties along The Old Road on the western edge, where Embassy Suites by Hilton Valencia on Westinghouse Place, the Hilton Garden Inn Valencia Six Flags, the Courtyard by Marriott, the Residence Inn and the Hampton Inn and Suites take the visiting-family and weekend-away traffic. Between them they handle a real share of this occasion — but the larger share is still a private address, because an anniversary in a suburb of single-family homes is usually celebrated at the house before anyone drives anywhere.
If you are sending to a hotel, the desk needs three things and will refuse without them. The guest's name spelled exactly as the reservation was made, because a desk cannot match flowers to a room by a nickname. The check-in date, because an arrangement arriving two days early becomes the hotel's storage problem and a bouquet arriving after checkout becomes nobody's. And a note saying whether you want it held at the desk for collection or placed in the room, since in-room placement is a courtesy a property may or may not extend and the answer differs from one hotel on The Old Road to the next. Call the property yourself if the surprise depends on in-room placement at a specific hour. For anything that has to be waiting when a door opens, the Hyatt Regency Valencia is the property with the most practice at it, simply because it hosts the most events.
The home version has a different set of problems, all of them geographic. Valencia is built around its paseo network — pedestrian paths and footbridges threading between the tracts — so a house number can face a landscaped walkway with no kerb next to it, and a driver following a pin can finish a block away from the door. Give the cross street and the tract name. The hillside communities in 91354, Tesoro del Valle and West Creek, plus Westridge and the Bridgeport lake tracts, have gates and guard kiosks, so put the code in the note. Canyon Country condominium complexes along Soledad Canyon Road need a building letter as well as a unit number. And the whole valley shares a timing problem: a very large number of residents commute over the Newhall Pass to Burbank, the San Fernando Valley or downtown Los Angeles by I-5, State Route 14 or the Metrolink Antelope Valley Line, which means the house that looks like the obvious address is empty from nine until six.
