Which Santa Barbara funeral homes and cemeteries do you reach?
+
The downtown chapel at 15 East Sola Street and its Goleta location on Ward Drive, and the mortuary at 2020 Chapala Street, are all short runs from the State Street bench. For burial we deliver to the Santa Barbara Cemetery at 901 Channel Drive on the bluff above Butterfly Beach, Calvary Cemetery at 199 North Hope Avenue, Goleta Cemetery at 44 San Antonio Road, and Carpinteria Cemetery on Cravens Lane. Services at the Old Mission on Laguna Street, the downtown parishes, Our Lady of Guadalupe on North Nopal Street, All Saints-by-the-Sea on Eucalyptus Lane in Montecito and St. Raphael on Hollister in Goleta are all inside the routine radius.
What works for a graveside service at the Santa Barbara Cemetery?
+
Low, wide and weighted. That lawn on Channel Drive is open to the ocean, the onshore breeze comes up the bluff most afternoons and a sundowner can push the other way by early evening, so a tall arrangement on a light easel looks wrong within minutes of being set down. Ask for a dense base, foliage packed tight, and heavier county-grown material — leucadendron, protea, stock, chrysanthemum, lisianthus — instead of long bare stems with big heads. Timing matters too: flowers want to be in place before the procession arrives from the chapel, which means a morning delivery for an afternoon interment, not a same-hour one.
The Mass is at the Old Mission — what should I send there?
+
Send the arrangement for the family, and leave the church to the parish. The Old Mission at 2201 Laguna Street has its own sanctuary conventions and its own schedule; altar and sanctuary flowers are decided there, not by a florist and not by a sender, so what travels well to a funeral Mass is a piece that will go home with someone afterwards. A compact white-and-green hand-tied, or an orchid plant in a solid vessel, does that job and survives being carried down the Mission steps and into a car. Tell us the Mass time and we will get it to the parish office rather than the sanctuary door.
Should the flowers go to the service or to the house?
+
The house, more often than senders expect. Flowers at a chapel are seen for an hour and then handed to whoever has a free hand; flowers on a kitchen table in Montecito or on the Mesa are still there on the fourth day, when the out-of-town relatives have flown home and the phone has stopped ringing. That week is the one people describe afterwards as the hard part. If you want to do both, put a small piece on the service and schedule a second delivery to the house four or five days out — and if you only get one, take the second slot. Ask the family which address before you assume.
I'm out of state and the family is in Montecito — what do you need from me?
+
More than a street number. The lanes off East Valley Road and San Ysidro Road sit behind hedges and long driveways, gates frequently answer a call box rather than a code, and the address marker is often on a post well away from the house. Hope Ranch is gated at Las Positas and private road throughout, with no curb a driver can wait at. Give us a gate code or a call-box name, a mobile number for whoever is there, and a note if the family has asked for no doorbell. If nobody will be home, the retirement and resort front desks nearby sign for deliveries, and a neighbor named in the notes works better than a guess.
What does a sympathy arrangement cost here, and can you do a casket spray?
+
The listed arrangements in this selection start at $84.49. Delivery charges, taxes and optional extras are confirmed for the selected florist and recipient before payment.
The service is in Solvang or Santa Maria — can you still deliver?
+
Sometimes, and you should plan for next-day. The live radius here is widened to 60 miles because Central Coast supply is thin, so Solvang, Buellton, Los Olivos and Santa Ynez over San Marcos Pass on Highway 154 are reachable, as are Lompoc, Ventura, Ojai, Oxnard and Camarillo down or up the 101. But it is one bench and one road: a run over the pass and back is most of an afternoon, and the 101 pinches at Rincon where storms have closed it outright. For a service north of Gaviota or south of Ventura, order the day before, give us the chapel's receiving window, and let us start that run in the morning.
