Flowers for Sandusky, MI

Make no mistake about which Sandusky this is: not the Ohio lakeshore town but the quiet seat of Sanilac County, planted at the M-46 and M-19 crossroads in the middle of Michigan's Thumb. The courthouse anchors the square, a handful of storefronts and the county offices cluster around it, and past the edge of town the land opens flat and green into sugar-beet, bean, and dairy country that runs to the horizon. This is agricultural Michigan at its most literal — the fairgrounds host one of the state's big county fairs every summer, and the Sanilac Petroglyphs sit not far off. For flower delivery the geography sets the pace: a run inside Sandusky itself takes minutes, but a lot of the work heads out to farmhouses on the section-line roads toward Peck, Deckerville, and Carsonville, where addresses are measured in miles and a driver plans the route by the mailbox numbers along the gravel.
