They told me OHSU. Is that enough to put on the order?
+
No, and it is the commonest reason a Portland hospital delivery goes astray. Marquam Hill is a set of separate buildings sharing a handful of street addresses, so OHSU on its own does not name a door. Say which one: OHSU Hospital, Kohler Pavilion, Doernbecher, Casey Eye, Shriners Children's or the Portland VA. Each has its own entrance, desk and rules, and they are not interchangeable even where a sky bridge joins them. The aerial tram from South Waterfront carries people rather than freight, so the van takes the road up. Flowers Tommyluke at 906 SW Taylor Street is closest to the bottom of that climb.
Is Doernbecher handled differently from the adult hospital next door?
+
Yes, although they sit on the same ridge and share bridges between buildings. Doernbecher Children's runs to a paediatric standard throughout, and its cancer and cardiac beds are stricter again: expect no potting soil, no flowering plants, and on some units no cut stems either. Small loose parts are declined as a choking risk, which quietly rules out most of what gets clipped onto a get-well arrangement. Send the child's full name as admitted and the unit, and let the shop ring ahead. Shriners Children's, a few hundred feet along the same road, is largely orthopaedic and long-stay, so a living plant that is still there in three weeks often makes more sense than cut flowers.
Someone is at Legacy Emanuel, Randall Children's or the Oregon Burn Center.
+
That is 2801 N Gantenbein Avenue in North Portland, and it holds two of the tightest units in the region on one campus. Randall Children's applies a full paediatric standard. The Oregon Burn Center, which takes transfers from across Oregon and southwest Washington, is the address here most likely to decline flowers outright — hearing that from us costs you nothing, whereas hearing it from the entrance desk wastes a delivery. Where the answer is yes, it is a low unscented lily-free build and nothing with soil. Grandave Florist in inner Southeast and Mtscott Blooms Bymaru on NE Sandy Boulevard both reach that campus without a long run.
What about Providence Portland on NE Glisan?
+
Easiest route on this page. Providence Portland Medical Center sits at 4805 NE Glisan Street with the Robert W. Franz Cancer Center on the campus, and Portland Florists Hop is on the same street further east at 11807 N.E. Glisan — a straight westward run with no bridge and no hill in it. Mtscott Blooms Bymaru comes down from NE Sandy Boulevard. Oncology beds there run the usual restriction on soil and heavy scent; general medical, surgical and maternity floors are straightforward. Glisan, incidentally, is said locally with a short first syllable, which matters not at all to the flowers but saves you a pause on the phone.
My relative is on the west side — St. Vincent or Good Samaritan.
+
Two very different deliveries. Providence St. Vincent at 9205 SW Barnes Road sits above the Sunset Highway in the West Hills, with room to arrive and park; Westside Florist at 4425 SW 109th Avenue in Beaverton is the nearest of the ten, nine miles out, and Flowers Bydonna on SW Hall Blvd in Tigard covers the same direction at 7.4 miles. Legacy Good Samaritan at 1015 NW 22nd Avenue is the harder one, sitting inside the alphabet-street grid of Northwest Portland where blocks are short, most streets run one way and kerb space disappears by mid-morning. Morning orders clear that neighbourhood far more reliably than afternoon ones.
Can you reach Gresham, Tualatin, Clackamas or Vancouver?
+
All of them, inside the eighteen-mile radius. Legacy Mount Hood in Gresham and Adventist Health at 10123 SE Market Street are Nick's Flower Shop's direction out E Burnside. Legacy Meridian Park in Tualatin is the closest pairing on the page: Flower Ingjade at 8101 SW Nyberg Street works from the same town. Kaiser Sunnyside in Clackamas, Providence Milwaukie and Providence Willamette Falls in Oregon City fill the south. Vancouver is across the Columbia and a state line, with PeaceHealth Southwest and Legacy Salmon Creek served by Myfine Flowers and The Flower Expressinc, both 8.6 miles out — allow for the I-5 Interstate Bridge lift, which stops both directions when it rises.
Why does the behavioural unit have different rules from a surgical floor?
+
Because the risk being managed is different. Unity Center for Behavioral Health at 1225 NE 2nd Avenue, and the behavioural beds elsewhere in this radius, restrict glass, cords, wire and small removable parts, which quietly excludes a glass vase, a balloon weight, a ribbon tie and most wired stems. A plant in a plastic or unglazed pot, unwrapped, is the reliable choice. On a surgical or medical floor none of that applies and the constraints revert to the usual three: no lilies, nothing strongly scented, and a low vessel that fits a windowsill. Name the unit on the order either way and the shop confirms that floor's current policy before loading.
They are recovering at home in Portland instead. Anything to know?
+
Two things, both local. First the address: Portland has six sectors — N, NE, NW, SE, SW and the South sector added in 2020 along the west bank — and the same numbered avenue exists in several of them, so a missing directional sends the van across the river. Write the full prefix. Second the weather: it rains most days from mid-October to May, and a bouquet left on an uncovered step is a wasted order. Happily the close-in east side is largely pre-1930 houses with deep covered porches. Name the porch, add a mobile number, send it in the afternoon.
