Flowers for Park River, ND

Picture a Tuesday order at Mylittlenesteggnd: someone three hours away calls before lunch, describes a grandmother's house on the north edge of town, and asks for something cheerful for a birthday. By mid-afternoon it is on the step — that is the everyday rhythm of flowers in Park River, a Walsh County farm-service town of about fourteen hundred settled by Czech and Norwegian families and named for the little river that curls through it. The work here is neighborly and seasonal: spring graduation and confirmation flowers for the Park River Area School, summer weddings out at the churches and the county fairgrounds in Grafton, and the sympathy orders that gather through the long cold months. Unity Medical Center sits right in town, so get-well and new-baby arrangements stay local more often than in most rural counties.
