Flowers for Newington, CT

Ham radio operators on six continents can point to Newington because of four characters: W1AW, the flagship station at the American Radio Relay League's Main Street headquarters, has been putting this town on the air for nearly a century. On the ground, Newington operates at a gentler frequency — Mill Pond Park and the little waterfall the town throws a festival for every fall, the National Iwo Jima Memorial's flag at the New Britain line, Cedar Mountain's wooded traprock shielding the north end, and the Berlin Turnpike carrying its river of brake lights through the middle of it all. Flower routes trace that same shape: porch deliveries in the grid around Market Square, counter drops at the Turnpike plazas, memorial wreaths for ceremony days, and a steady line of arrangements to the VA campus on Willard Avenue.
