Miami Beach is a returning city, and anniversaries are the clearest proof of it. Couples honeymoon on this island and come back for the tenth in the same hotel, sometimes asking for the same floor; couples who married at a Lapidus-era hotel in the 1960s are now the residents in Mid-Beach towers a mile north of it. That shapes the anniversary order in a way it does not in most cities. Half the requests on this page are for a room on Collins Avenue occupied by people who flew in last night, and the other half are for a front desk in 33140 or 33141 where the recipients have lived for thirty years. The two need different handling. A hotel room wants the guest's name exactly as it appears on the reservation, the property, and the check-in date, because nothing should arrive before the room is released. A resident's condo wants the unit number, the name the building keeps on file, and ideally a morning slot — the lobby is air-conditioned and the afternoon is not. Get the category right and the rest of the order is easy; get it wrong and a bouquet spends six hours in a bell closet.
The hotel spine is the island's anniversary infrastructure, and it runs the length of Collins. In South Beach: The Setai on Collins at 20th, 1 Hotel South Beach, W South Beach, the Miami Beach EDITION, the Ritz-Carlton South Beach off Lincoln Road, Loews Miami Beach, the Betsy on Ocean Drive, the National, the Sagamore, Royal Palm, Kimpton Surfcomber and Mondrian over on West Avenue, with the Standard Spa on Belle Isle sitting on the Venetian Causeway between the island and the mainland. In Mid-Beach: Faena, Soho Beach House, and the two Morris Lapidus landmarks that made this coastline famous — the Fontainebleau, opened in 1954, and the Eden Roc, opened in 1955, which now also houses Nobu Hotel Miami Beach. North Beach has the Carillon on Collins at 68th. Each concierge desk works slightly differently, but the pattern is the same everywhere: a delivery accepted at the desk, logged, and either placed in the room by housekeeping at turndown or held for the guest to collect. If you want it in the room before the couple walks in, say so on the order and give the check-in time — that is the single request that makes or breaks an anniversary surprise on this island.
For residents, the anniversary map is a condo map. South of Fifth and the West Avenue corridor in 33139 hold the newer-money towers; Mid-Beach 33140 runs from the 41st Street corridor up Collins past Faena House and the Bath Club into La Gorce, Nautilus and the Bayshore blocks behind the Miami Beach Golf Club; North Beach 33141 has the island's genuine neighbourhoods — Normandy Isle and Normandy Shores around the fountain, Biscayne Point, Altos del Mar, the North Shore streets — and the only meaningful stock of single-family houses with front doors. The Venetian Islands (Belle Isle, Rivo Alto, Di Lido, San Marino) are a straightforward run apart from the causeway drawbridge; Star, Palm and Hibiscus need the recipient's name to match a guard-house list; Fisher Island in 33109 is ferry-only from Terminal Island and should be ordered a day ahead. One local scheduling note that catches out-of-town senders: this is a seasonal island. Many long-married couples in Mid-Beach and North Beach are snowbirds who are north from roughly May to October, so a July anniversary delivery to a 33140 tower can arrive at an empty apartment. Confirm they are in town before you order.
