About Jacksonville get-well

How Jacksonville sends get-well flowers.

Almost everywhere else the family names the hospital and the order is effectively addressed. In Jacksonville the name is where the trouble starts. Baptist Health puts Baptist on five hospitals — the flagship at 800 Prudential Drive on the Southbank, Baptist South at Bartram on Old St. Augustine Road, Baptist Beaches in Jacksonville Beach, Baptist Clay on Fleming Island and Baptist Nassau up in Fernandina. Ascension St. Vincent's has two campuses in range, Riverside on Shircliff Way and Southside on Belfort Road, with the St. Johns between them. UF Health means either the trauma center on West 8th Street or the newer hospital on Max Leggett Parkway by the airport. Sending a driver to the wrong half of any of those pairs does not cost ten minutes here. It costs a bridge, and usually the cutoff. The question worth asking is never the health system; it is the building, the street, and then the unit.

Restrictions belong to units, and here they have names. The neonatal intensive care unit at Wolfson Children's takes nothing living — no stems, no pot — so a NICU family gets the delivery at home, or at the Ronald McDonald House on Children's Way, where the parents are probably sleeping a hundred yards from the incubator. That block misleads twice: Nemours Children's Health at 807 Children's Way is specialty clinics rather than beds, so an admitted child is next door in Wolfson. Cancer changes the rules another way. Baptist MD Anderson, the cancer floors at Mayo and the oncology units at UF Health treat pollen and perfume as clinical questions rather than taste: no lilies in any form, nothing bred to scent a room, and while blood counts are down several of those units keep soil out of the room altogether — the plant is right for the same patient in six weeks and wrong today. Mayo's transplant floors are tighter still, and the campus answers that itself: Gabriel House of Care, the hospitality house on Mayo's own grounds, will take a delivery for the caregiver staying there when the patient can receive nothing. At UF Health's trauma and neuro intensive care the answer is usually no, and what arrives waits at the desk for a relative.

The easy floors are maternity, orthopedics and the post-surgical wards at Memorial, St. Vincent's Southside and Baptist South, and Brooks Rehabilitation earns its own line. A rehabilitation admission runs weeks, and the patient is out of the room in the therapy gym for much of the day — which is quietly hard on cut stems, left unattended for hours with nobody near the water. That is the clearest case in this city for something in a pot. What travels onto any of these floors is low, dense and does not shed: spray roses, mini carnations, button poms, hypericum berry and salal, in a ceramic or plastic cube no taller than a foot. Leave the eucalyptus out; it is the scented thing people forget is scented. Skip the latex balloon, refused at every pediatric building in town. The free surface in a semi-private room is about the width of a paperback, so anything built upward is off the sill within the hour.

Delivery details to prepare

Delivery destinations in Jacksonville.

Baptist, Wolfson Children's and Baptist MD Anderson — 800 Prudential Drive

A block of towers with separate doors, and the children's hospital entrance is on Children's Way rather than the postal address. Nemours at 807 Children's Way is clinics, not beds, so an admitted child is next door in Wolfson. The neonatal unit accepts nothing living; the Ronald McDonald House on the same street does. No bridge from the Southside, which makes this the fastest large campus on the page.

HCA Florida Memorial and Brooks Rehabilitation — University Boulevard South, 32216

Two inpatient buildings on neighboring plots inside the centroid ZIP itself, still called Memorial by everyone local. Butterfly Flowers Usa is on the same road, a couple of miles along where it becomes University Boulevard West. Post-surgical and orthopedic floors here are the easiest in the city, and a Brooks stay running into weeks — patient down in the therapy gym most of the day — is the clearest argument on this page for a plant.

UF Health Jacksonville — 655 West 8th Street, and UF Health North

The region's Level I trauma center, on the far bank from five of the seven shops: cross on the Fuller Warren or the Acosta and keep the Main Street lift bridge out of the plan. Trauma and neuro intensive care commonly take nothing, leaving a handoff at the desk as the only route in. UF Health North on Max Leggett Parkway is a different hospital twelve miles away — confirm which. Gardner's Florist in Ortega is closest.

Baptist South, Baptist Beaches, Baptist Clay and HCA Florida Orange Park

Baptist South out at Bartram on Old St. Augustine Road, Baptist Beaches at the far end of the Beach Boulevard line that D Florals Jacksonville and Pippysposies work, Baptist Clay on Fleming Island, and HCA Florida Orange Park on Kingsley Avenue — a few blocks from Parkavenue Florist on Blanding Boulevard, which makes it the shortest hospital run of the seven and the one furthest from everything else.

Home recovery, senior living and the base gates

Where most of this city's get-well flowers actually land, since day surgery and infusion send people back to Riverside, San Marco, Mandarin, Arlington and the Beaches within a day. Fleet Landing, River Garden, Westminster Woods and Cypress Village all hand off at a desk, so the apartment number does the work. Naval Hospital Jacksonville on Child Street needs an off-base address or a gate-side handoff, and a summer afternoon porch here runs over a hundred degrees.

FAQ

Jacksonville flower delivery FAQs.

Which of the seven florists is nearest to each hospital?

Deerwood Florist on Southside Boulevard covers St. Vincent's Southside and the Baptist Southbank campus, neither of which needs a bridge. Butterfly Flowers Usa on University Boulevard West is on the same road as HCA Florida Memorial and Brooks Rehabilitation. D Florals Florida on Covenant Cove Drive is closest to Mayo Clinic past the Intracoastal. D Florals Jacksonville and Pippysposies work the Beach Boulevard line to Baptist Beaches. Gardner's Florist on Oxford Avenue is the west-bank bench for St. Vincent's Riverside and UF Health. Parkavenue Florist on Blanding Boulevard is blocks from HCA Florida Orange Park.

Can you deliver to Wolfson Children's Hospital?

To most of it, yes. Wolfson shares the Southbank block at 800 Prudential Drive with the adult hospital and Baptist MD Anderson, but the children's hospital has its own entrance on Children's Way — name the building, not just the street. Put the child's legal name on the order; a floor cannot route a nickname. Pediatric oncology, cardiac and intensive care want lily-free, unscented, low-pollen builds and no latex balloon. The neonatal unit accepts nothing living, so for a NICU family we deliver to the house or to the Ronald McDonald House on Children's Way.

My father is at Brooks Rehabilitation. What should I send?

Something in a pot. Brooks on University Boulevard South is an inpatient rehabilitation hospital and a stay there is counted in weeks, so the room becomes his room. He will also be down in the therapy gym for much of the day, which is hard on cut flowers — they sit unattended for hours with nobody near the water. A pothos, a dracaena or a small peace lily survives that, goes home at discharge and is still alive months later. Rehabilitation floors are among the most permissive here; include the room number.

What about UF Health, the trauma center on West 8th Street?

It is the region's Level I trauma center, and its trauma and neuro intensive care units frequently take no flowers at all — what you send waits at the desk for a relative to carry up, which is better known before ordering than after. Step-down and general medical floors are straightforward. Practically, West 8th Street is on the far bank from five of our seven benches, so make it a morning order: Gardner's Florist on Oxford Avenue is closest, and the crossing is the Fuller Warren or the Acosta, not the Main Street lift bridge.

Can you reach Orange Park, Fleming Island and Clay County?

Yes, and Clay County is better served than the distance suggests. Parkavenue Florist sits on Blanding Boulevard a few blocks from HCA Florida Orange Park on Kingsley Avenue, so that run is among the shortest on this page even though the shop is fifteen miles from the centroid. Baptist Clay on Fleming Island is a straight continuation south. What is slow is the other direction — anything from Clay into Duval crosses the Buckman, where an afternoon backup swallows a delivery window whole. Order Clay runs in the morning and they behave like local deliveries.

They are recovering at home, or in senior living. Anything different?

At a house nothing is inspected and nothing is refused, so send the generous, scented, lily-heavy thing they actually like. Home routes cover Riverside, Avondale, San Marco, Mandarin, Arlington, the Southside, Orange Park and the Beaches. Senior communities such as Fleet Landing, River Garden, Westminster Woods and Cypress Village hand off at a front desk, so include the apartment number and aim for mid-morning. Memory-care halls ask for nothing breakable — say so and we build into a plastic cube. June to September, take the morning window: a porch here at two in the afternoon is over a hundred degrees.
