Are flowers allowed on the floor?
+
That is the hospital's call and it changes by unit, so phone the unit desk before you order rather than after. Intensive care is usually its own set of rules, some floors accept nothing at all, and a shared room with family in it may simply have no free surface. When flowers are welcome, ask for something compact, unscented and stable enough not to tip when the bed moves. If the answer is no, the good alternatives are a planted piece sent to the family's house, or an arrangement timed for the day the patient goes home. Neither is a consolation prize; a plant on a kitchen counter gets looked at far longer than a vase on a hospital tray.
The patient is being treated at the Lucy Curci Cancer Center. What should I send?

Something unscented, low and low-pollen, and think about where it will sit. Infusion at Eisenhower Health happens in a room shared with other patients and the staff working the shift, so fragrance is not a private choice there — it belongs to everyone in the bay. Ask the shop to keep it scent-free and to strip out the heavy pollen; all five will. Better still, send a planted piece to the house instead and let the card do the work at the chair. Eisenhower is on Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage, about fifteen miles west of Indio and comfortably inside the 18-mile radius this grid covers.
My relative was taken to the trauma centre in Palm Springs. Can you deliver there?
+
No. Desert Regional on North Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs is roughly 24 miles from the Indio centroid, beyond the 18-mile radius these five studios serve, so nothing on this page reaches a bed there and no shop here should promise it. It is the hospital a serious Interstate 10 or Highway 111 accident ends at, so this comes up more than we would like. The workable answer is to send to the family instead: an arrangement or a plant to the Indio house they are going home to at midnight, which is where they will actually be sitting when it gets hard.
Should I send flowers to the hospital or to the house?
+
To the house, more often than people expect. Stays at JFK Memorial are frequently short — admitted Tuesday afternoon, home Wednesday morning — and an arrangement that lands after the discharge gets chased around a building or binned. A lot of valley recovery involves no bed at all: an outpatient procedure at Eisenhower, a treatment course driven back and forth along Highway 111, an older parent convalescing at home in Indian Palms or Sun City Shadow Hills. If you do not know how long the stay is, send home. If the patient is definitely in for several days and the unit allows it, the room is fine.
What holds up best in an Indio summer for someone recovering at home?
+
A plant, almost always. Someone who is ill should not have to change vase water every other day, and from June to September the afternoon here runs 110 to 118 degrees, which is hard on cut stems even indoors near a window. A planted piece takes one watering and keeps going for months. If you want cut flowers, ask for a lower, tighter design in a heavier vessel and have it delivered into someone's hands rather than left at the door. Between December and March the concern disappears: a cut arrangement will sit happily on a shaded patio table for a week.
The patient lives behind a gate. How does that work?
+
Give us the resident name as the guardhouse has it and a phone number, and the van clears in a minute. Indian Palms, Heritage Palms, Terra Lago up near the freeway, Bermuda Dunes in 92203 and Sun City Shadow Hills off Jefferson all screen deliveries at a gate, and a driver without a name goes back with your flowers. For a patient who is ill and may not reach a door quickly, add a note asking the driver to phone on arrival and wait rather than knock once and leave. If a caregiver or family member is staying at the house, put that person's name on the order instead.
