Anniversary flowers in Gardena

Gardena does not have a hotel district, and that single fact shapes almost every anniversary order the city produces. There is no downtown with a marquee property and a concierge desk; what there is instead is six square miles of houses, apartment courts and industrial blocks sitting exactly ten to fifteen minutes inland from one of the most concentrated stretches of coastline hotel in Southern California. North of the city, the LAX hotel wall along Century Boulevard handles the anniversaries that happen to start with a flight. The dinner half of the evening is worth naming too, because it changes the delivery instruction. Riviera Village at the south end of Redondo Beach, downtown Manhattan Beach above the pier, and Old Torrance around Cravens and Sartori — where Torrance Flower Shop keeps its counter at 1400 Cravens Avenue — are the three walkable restaurant districts closest to Gardena, and all three are made of small rooms with no storage behind the host stand. The Redondo Pier and King Harbor add a fourth. None of them is a good place to have flowers delivered mid-service, and all of them sit fifteen to twenty-five minutes from a Gardena address depending on whether you take Artesia, Redondo Beach Boulevard or the 405. If the plan is dinner out, the flowers should already be at the house before you leave it.
