Fort Worth gives an anniversary three completely different rooms to choose from, and the choice changes how the delivery has to work. The Stockyards is the first: Hotel Drover sits on Mule Alley in the old horse-and-mule barns off Exchange Avenue, the Stockyards Hotel holds the corner at Exchange and Main, and the whole district is walkable to Joe T. Garcia's on North Commerce, Cattlemen's Steak House and Lonesome Dove on North Main. The second is downtown, where the Omni on Houston Street, the Worthington Renaissance and the Ashton on Main, the Kimpton Harper and the Sinclair in restored 1930s office towers, and the Hilton Fort Worth — the building that was Hotel Texas, where John F. Kennedy spent his last night in 1963 — sit within a few blocks of Bass Performance Hall, Sundance Square and the Water Gardens. The third is the Cultural District along Camp Bowie Boulevard, where Bowie House opened beside the Kimbell, the Modern and the Amon Carter, and where the Fort Worth Botanic Garden keeps the oldest botanic garden in Texas a few minutes away. Blossoms Fortworth at 5023 Camp Bowie Boulevard is on that same boulevard, and Greenwood Florist at 3344 White Settlement Road is the closest shop on the rail to the district at 1.8 miles.
Hotel deliveries work well here as long as you understand what a hotel will and will not do. The realistic default at every property above is that the front desk or bell stand accepts the arrangement and holds it for the guest, and that is a completely fine outcome — you tell the desk the guest's registered name and the arrival date, and the couple picks it up at check-in with everyone watching, which is half the point. What no florist can promise is placement inside the room before the couple walks in. Some hotels will do it, some will not, and the ones that will need the guest's authorization or a concierge already expecting the delivery, which means a phone call to the property rather than a note in an order form. If in-room placement genuinely matters to the surprise, call the hotel first, ask whether they will accept and place a floral delivery, get a name, and then put that name on the order. Two details save more deliveries than anything else: use the name the reservation is under, not the spouse's, and give the arrival date, because a bouquet that lands a day early spends a night at a bell stand.
Restaurants are the trap. A Fort Worth anniversary dinner at Reata on Houston Street, Grace on Main, Ellerbe Fine Foods on West Magnolia, Bonnell's on Bryant Irvin Road, Cafe Modern inside the Modern Art Museum or the Woodshed on Riverfront Drive by the Trinity Trails is a wonderful place to be handed flowers and a difficult place to deliver them to. Dining rooms do not have a receiving desk, service staff are not couriers, and an arrangement dropped at a host stand at four in the afternoon sits by a door until someone finds a bucket. If you want flowers at a table, that is a conversation with the restaurant, arranged in advance, usually with the flowers brought by you. The far better plan is to send the arrangement to the house or the hotel earlier in the day so it is part of the evening from the start rather than an object to carry through a valet line. The one reliable exception is a hotel restaurant where the front desk of the same building can receive and hold the delivery.
The residential half of this occasion runs west and southwest. Monticello, Crestline and Arlington Heights sit behind Camp Bowie in 76107; Rivercrest wraps the country club founded in 1911; Westover Hills is its own small incorporated town entirely surrounded by Fort Worth. South of the river you have Park Hill, Berkeley Place, Mistletoe Heights, Colonial and Overton Park in 76109 and 76110, then Tanglewood, Overton Woods and the Hulen corridor, then Wedgwood and Candleridge in 76133, then the gated southwest — Mira Vista and Montserrat — where delivery goes through a guard or a call box. Anything gated needs a gate code or the recipient's mobile number on the order; without one the driver's only legal option is to leave the arrangement at a gatehouse, which is not the surprise you paid for. On the east and northeast sides, Meadowbrook, Woodhaven, Riverside and Oakhurst are shortest for Mountolivet Flower Shop at 2301 North Sylvania Avenue in 76111, and the far north ZIPs around Alliance, Heritage and Keller sit at the outer edge of the 18-mile ring, so order those in the morning.
