Fitzgerald is a town with two famous peculiarities, and both shape how flowers move through it. The first walks the streets: Burmese jungle fowl, wild descendants of a failed game-bird release, strut the sidewalks and gardens so freely the town leaned in and threw a Wild Chicken Festival for them. The second is written into the map. Fitzgerald was founded in the 1890s as a colony where Union and Confederate veterans deliberately settled side by side, and the street grid still carries the peace treaty in its names — Grant and Sherman on the north side, Lee and Jackson on the south. A delivery here means reading that grid right, because the same block number can land on either army depending on the avenue. Day to day, the orders are ordinary and human: anniversary roses to the older homes near downtown, get-well arrangements carried to Dorminy Medical Center, and birthday bouquets out to the farm addresses along Highway 129.
