East Providence is the one Rhode Island city that faces the state's capital from the far bank of the water rather than sharing its grid. The Seekonk and Providence rivers wall it off to the west; the Ten Mile River threads Rumford; and the East Bay Bike Path slides south from the old rail bed toward Barrington and Bristol.
