Hotel mechanics, stated honestly. The bayfront row on Shoreline Boulevard — the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel on the marina side downtown, the Emerald Beach Hotel further south with its own strip of bay beach — takes deliveries at the front desk, and so do the hotels clustered along SPID near Moore Plaza and out toward the airport where visiting family usually stays. What a front desk needs is the guest's full name as the reservation reads, the check-in date, and a mobile number. What a front desk will not do is put flowers in a room on your schedule: in-room placement is the hotel's decision, and most will either hold the arrangement for the guest at check-in or send it up on housekeeping's next pass. So do not order for a Friday arrival on Wednesday — nothing good happens to a vase behind a bell desk for forty-eight hours. Ask for a wide-based, sturdy vase, because the couple is carrying it out to a car on Sunday. Now the restaurants. Downtown's Water Street block and the North Beach and causeway spots are institutions here, and they are the wrong address. A hostess stand is not a receiving dock, staff turn over between shifts, and a reservation under one name and a delivery under another is how an arrangement ends up in a walk-in cooler. If you want flowers at dinner, two things work: send them to the house in the afternoon so they leave together, or hand them to a friend who is joining you. Anything else is a gamble with a story attached.
The second big anniversary pattern in Corpus Christi is generational. This is a city people stay in and come back to, and a large share of our anniversary orders are placed by adult children living in San Antonio, Houston, Austin, Dallas or out of state for parents celebrating a fortieth, fiftieth or sixtieth in the house they have owned since the seventies — off Alameda, in Del Mar or Six Points in 78404, out on the Southside in 78413 and 78414, up in Calallen in 78410. For those orders: send it in the morning or early afternoon, not at five, because there is usually a family lunch or an evening Mass and the flowers should be in the house before the relatives arrive. Put the years on the card — *55 years* means more on a card than an adjective does. And include a number for a son or daughter who lives here, because a couple in their eighties may not answer an unknown number and we do not leave an arrangement in the sun. Two more local addresses that come up. The Corpus Christi Marina downtown, where the T-heads and L-head slips hold everything from sailboats to charter fishing boats: we can deliver to a slip, but we need the slip number and someone aboard, and we will build low because the wind on the water is relentless. And the Corpus Christi Botanical Gardens and Nature Center on Oso Creek off Yorktown Boulevard, where small vow-renewal ceremonies happen — that is a booked-in-advance order, not a same-day one, and it should be discussed with the shop a few days out. We make no claims of a standing arrangement with any venue; these are simply places our drivers know how to reach.
