Can you deliver to Enloe Medical Center the same day?
+
Same-day options depend on the delivery ZIP, requested date, florist availability and that florist's local cutoff. Check the available options before paying; a city listing does not guarantee delivery today.
My uncle was brought to Enloe from Chester. There is no house here to send anything to. What can I do?
+
This is the most common version of a Chico get-well order and it is worth naming, because Enloe is the Level II trauma center for a rural catchment that reaches Willows, Orland, Red Bluff, Corning, Gridley, Chester, Quincy, Greenville and Susanville. Families arrive with an overnight bag and no local address. The room is the address. Send something compact and unscented that needs no vase and can go home in a car when he is discharged — a potted plant travels far better than cut stems over a mountain pass. If the floor declines it, ask us to leave it with whoever is sitting in the waiting area; that is usually the person running on three hours of sleep.
Will the cancer center or a critical-care floor accept flowers?
+
Often not, and the honest move is to ask before you buy rather than after. The Enloe Regional Cancer Center on Cohasset Road and the hospital's critical-care areas restrict living material for a simple reason: wet soil and week-old vase water both suit bacteria and mould, and a patient whose blood counts have bottomed out has nothing spare to fight them with. Pediatric floors work to a tighter list again, and latex is usually out on allergy grounds — if a balloon is going along, specify mylar. Ring the unit at 1531 Esplanade, or ask us to ring. A refusal only changes the address: it goes to the family's house instead, or to whoever is sitting in the waiting area.
How should something for an Enloe room be built?
+
Low, scentless, lily-free, and finished before it leaves the shop. The windowsill in an Enloe room is roughly the width of a paperback, the rolling table is already carrying a jug and a call button, and there may be a curtain with somebody else's half of the room behind it — so height works against you instead of for you. Lilies are the specific thing to refuse: the anthers shed a rust-coloured pollen that permanently marks a pillowcase, and in a room whose window does not open the smell is inescapable by morning two. And nothing should need assembling on the floor, because there is no shelf of spare containers up there and the staff member you would be asking has nine other beds.
Paradise has no hospital. Where is my relative actually being treated?
+
In Chico, at Enloe. The Camp Fire destroyed the Adventist Health Feather River campus on Pentz Road in November 2018 along with most of Paradise, and it did not reopen as an acute-care hospital. The Ridge — Paradise, Magalia, Concow — now comes fifteen miles down the Skyway to Enloe for anything beyond a clinic visit. So if the family says hospital in Paradise, order to 1531 Esplanade in Chico and confirm the unit. The same logic applies in reverse for the recovery: the patient goes back up the Skyway afterward, so a plant that survives the ride and the Ridge's winters is the better gift than a hand-tied bouquet.
The procedure was outpatient and they are recovering at home. What should I send?
+
Something low, sturdy and long-lived, sent to the room they will actually be sitting in. Most procedures here are day cases out of the clinics on the Cohasset Road and Rio Lindo blocks near Enloe or at a surgical center, and the patient is home by evening with weeks of limited movement ahead. Potted material is the sensible purchase in that situation: nobody has to carry it to a sink every other day, which matters to somebody on crutches. Chico's older housing also has steps — the Avenues bungalows and the Barber cottages both tend to sit up on a raised porch — so say so if the entrance has stairs, and say where the shade is.
