Bryan's five ZIPs each behave differently on a routine route, and knowing which one you are sending to is most of the game. 77803 is the centroid — Historic Downtown Bryan, the Main Street blocks with the Palace Theater and Queen Theatre and the First Friday district, and the older north-central neighborhoods where houses front the street directly; a porch drop is simple here but fully exposed to sun. 77801 runs south along Texas Avenue through Midtown, thick with apartment communities and small offices, where the leasing office is the dependable hand-off. 77802 is east Bryan — Briarcrest Drive, Villa Maria, Boonville Road, East 29th Street — and includes gated Miramont, which needs a gate code or a call-ahead number. 77807 runs west past Finfeather and Harvey Mitchell Parkway toward Lake Bryan and the Traditions and Lake Walk area. 77808 is the northeast side out Tabor Road, Old Hearne Road and OSR toward Austin's Colony and Kurten, where properties sit far apart, mailboxes are not always numbered, and a landmark in the notes can save a driver twenty minutes. College Station's 77840 and 77845 are on the same grid.
The most common just-because sends in Bryan are boringly practical, and worth listing because people talk themselves out of them. Teacher and school-staff thank-yous: Bryan ISD campus front offices, including Bryan High and Rudder High, take deliveries all year, along with Allen Academy, St. Joseph Catholic School, Brazos Christian School and Blinn College's Bryan campus — and a bouquet in October or February means considerably more than one in the last week of May, when the front office is already full of them. New neighbors and new babies, especially out in the newer Austin's Colony and Traditions builds where somebody has just moved in and knows nobody. Caregivers: the person looking after a parent recovering at home, who gets nothing while all the attention goes to the patient. Front-desk and shift teams at the Brazos County courthouse offices, City of Bryan, Bryan Texas Utilities, the Research Valley business park and the plants on the north side. And standing weekly orders for downtown Bryan businesses and offices that want fresh flowers on the counter every Monday — the same two shops handle those on a recurring route, which is the cheapest per-stem way to buy flowers in this city.
